Our estate has a rich history and three generations worth of stories interwoven into every space. Authenticity is everywhere, and guests booking into Kurland are invited to become a part of this layered narrative as well. Just as every room is uniquely decorated, so too is every space conceived with a delightful experience in mind.
Come with us as we explore the spaces and places that make country living at Kurland anything but ordinary…
For rainy days and lazy evenings, the Kurland library is a haven of old and interesting books. Find a comfortable chair near the crackling fireplace and lose hours of your time. That is, after all, what holidays are made for…
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home.” – Anna Quindlen
Katarina’s – The Barn is one of the estate’s most beautiful spaces. Rustic, atmospheric décor, 200m2 of space, and a gourmet chef’s kitchen make this space perfect for boutique meetings and presentations, private functions, intimate weddings, and special family celebrations. Beautiful views overlooking sprawling paddocks and a bold mountain range in the background add to the charm, particularly whilst sitting on the covered verandah and dining al fresco.
The majestic Pavilion on the main polo field not only provides the best views of the polo matches, but the striking architecture and dramatic views also make this spot a favourite venue for events, weddings, and celebrations. Our Pavilion restaurant can cater for up to 60 guests, and, for larger events of up to 300 guests, marquees can be set up on the main decks under the stars.
Plett and Nature’s Valley’s unspoiled beaches are a quick car drive away, but what’s a summer holiday in the country without lazy afternoons by the pool? There are private plunge pools scattered all over the estate, and an additional pool and kiddies pool near the playroom area, but the Homestead’s sparkling blue central pool is the perfect meeting place for friends and family members. Ample sun loungers and umbrellas complete the idyllic experience.
Many late afternoon discussions take place on South African ‘stoeps’ all over the country. Kurland’s veranda is particularly inviting, offering views of the pool and the green paddocks beyond, and boasting traditional polished floors and a reed ceiling. Settle into the oversized sofas, catch up with your loved ones over afternoon tea, and ease into the evening as you watch the sun set.
Whether you’re visiting Kurland for a long-overdue holiday, a celebration, or a prestigious polo match, you cannot leave without viewing the beautiful stables adjacent to the Pavilion on the property. Kurland accommodates up to 40 horses, in style and scenic beauty, of course.
A country stay wouldn’t be complete without a refreshing dip in the farm dam. For the less adventurous, enjoy a scenic stroll around the area, try your hand at fishing, or row your boat into the middle of the dam and enjoy the panorama.
